バスケットボール日本代表の愛称(ニックネーム)はAKTUKI JAPAN(アカツキ ジャパン)です。
2022年7月27日まではAKATUKI FIVE(アカツキ ファイブ)でした。
2022年7月28日に現在のAKTUKI JAPAN(アカツキ ジャパン)に変更されました。
これまでのAKATUKI FIVE(アカツキ ファイブ)に変わり、3人制、5人制、或いは、男子、女子に関係なく様々なカテゴリーの日本代表日本代表をAKTUKI JAPAN(アカツキ ジャパン)に統一。
これまでのAKATUKI FIVE(アカツキ ファイブ)は５人制の男子、女子チームを指していましたが、東京オリンピックで採用された３人制も含めて、オールバスケで掲げる新たなニックネーとなりました。
世界に挑戦する代表チームを、みんなで応援していこうという思いが込められています。
AKTUKI JAPAN の由来
AKTUKI (アカツキ)には「暁(あかつき)は日の丸にも通じる日本を象徴するモチーフであり、世界に挑戦する日本代表に「日の出の勢い」をもたらすという意味が込められています。
オールバスケで掲げる新たなニックネーム・シンボルマークと共に、バスケで日本を元気にするべく、常に日本に夜明けをもたらす先駆者であり日本社会に日の出の勢いをもたらす存在でありたいと思っています。

新しいユニフォームのサプライヤーは元NBAスーパープレイヤーのマイケル・ジョーダン氏の名前を冠したNIKE傘下の「ジョーダン・ブランド」です。
ジョーダン・ブランドの代表チームとの契約は世界４カ国目でアジア初です。
このブランドが好きで、普段からスニーカーも着用する。これを着る以上、ふがいないプレーはできない
